Exercise (pg. 90) Memory Glimpse
I don't remember much about my early childhood, but I know I was always shy and loved to dig my head into my mom and dad's shoulder. I was always quiet when I was younger, but this memory takes place in the earliest house I remember living in. I was in my very small backyard, living on my cul-de-sac in Ramsey, NJ, where I was playing on my swing set. My mom was always video taping me and my brother at this age, about 4, but I never noticed the camera at the time. My face was very pudgy when I was younger. I had chubby cheeks and big swollen lips, and I think that's why my mom was always videoing me, because I looked cute. However, I remember sitting on top of the yellow slide, holding onto the wooden bar overhead, and looking at my mom as she eagerly awaits my departure towards her. I remember my hair all over my face, sticking every where because my hair was always so stringy as a baby, and running into her arms smiling and laughing. I always remember that day and that memory, and whenever I see that home video I remember it vividly and automatically puts a grin on my face. This could be because of how happy and innocent I am, or as any four year old is while playing on a swing set, or because I actually relive the memory every time I see it or reminisce on it. Whenever I find my self in an amazing mood, smiling and laughing with people that are meaningful and worth while, I am taken back to that exact same time and place, living carefree and in the moment. Of course when I was four years old I actually was living carefree, but the feeling is similar, even at 20 years old.
